Can uterine prolapse cause cramping?

Some patients with a uterine prolapse do not experience any symptoms. Others experience a wide range of symptoms.

These symptoms can vary from person to person. They often include:

  • heaviness or pulling in the pelvis
  • low back pain
  • urinary incontinence
  • incomplete bladder emptying
  • constipation
  • cramping

These symptoms are caused by a weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and the connective tissues that support the vagina and other pelvic organs.

uterine prolapse cramping

If you are experiencing cramping, your symptoms could be caused by a number of factors, including pelvic organ prolapse. Schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor or gynecologist.

To get the most from your visit with your doctor, be sure to write down a description of the symptoms you are experiencing and details pertaining to when it began. This information, along with a physical exam, will help your provider to diagnose the source of your cramping – pelvic organ prolapse, or otherwise.
